Lafayette Parish Divorce Records

Divorce records are civil files generated about a marriage dissolution. They contain initial petitions, financial disclosures, custody agreements, and the final divorce decree.

Divorce decrees are considered open to the public under Louisiana law, although custody arrangements, financial settlements, and other agreement papers are typically kept private. Individuals may use certified copies of a divorce decree to prove their single status to government agencies, legally revert to a maiden name, or update joint financial accounts.

Residents can visit the Civil Records department at the Clerk of Court in person to obtain a decree. They can also mail a written inquiry with the party names, case number, and appropriate copy fees.
